Our company is in the online backup business. I use copernic (and agree it is excellent) but it does not cause my files to be marked as changed. I use bit level backup which backs up files which hav been modified and I checked this with my coppernic searched files and found only files which were actually changed (By that I mean ammended) were included in the backup. I asked tech support if our software makes any special allowance for coppernic and was advised that the only such allowances common with online backup are the opposite in that they are programmed to backup files which have been marked as already backed up by another system such as tape. Anyone have other coppernic issues with online backup?

I used Mozy.com for a while but fount it used some serious resource. May be better on a new core duo but on my celeron it was vslow andworse still it slowed everything else. I did however get used to and comfortable with online backup so I moved to http://www.backupanytime.com for essential work data and a free http://carbonite.com account for my home stuff.

Other than the speed issue I found mozy ok but the speed was an issue.

Some non commercial options only allow limited bytes restore in any one month resulting in a hotel California for your data. I use a commercial version of http://www.backupanytime.com which allows unlimited restore in any one period or session. Anything less and you really are setting yourself up to depend on something you cant depend on!

Thanks, this may become interesting when they have sync, until then it requires manual work, not interesting to me.

Also, it would not hurt to list some company background info, if you (they?) expect users to trust you (them?) with their data.

For online backup, try http://www.myotherdrive.com and see what you think. They offer 5GB of storage free. They currently have batch upload/download (single directory level), but I read that they will soon be offering a ’synchronize’ feature that will automate the process. They also have inexpensive buy-up plans for more space, all the way to 200GB. I have to admit, their web-based UI is one of the slickest I have every seen!
