What I do after booting up an XP system, is to use Alt-ctrl-del and kill the explorer and any iexplore and it runs great. I have to use the Run feature of task manager to start opera, etc. Running web servers like Apache, MySql etc work great. I originally started to do this to prevent spyware from getting a handle on the system. Without Windows hooks in explorer & iexplore, spyware seems to be lost without any hooks to grab on to! In other words, Windows OS runs better without the Windows.
