ERP is an out dated concept. For many ERP vendors, including SAP, ERP is a core business application and they still manage to sell the out dated concept to business.

Any core business application in the current environment should be customer centric. In most of the ERPs demand planning aspects are not factored and customers have no role to play. So one can find exceptions to business processes that are not handled by ERP. And people in most of the organisations; where ERP is implemented, spend a lot of time working around those exceptions.

Please wake up and discard ERP and move on..

The Major ERP Vendors have failed to meet the aspirations of Small and Medium Industries vis a vis cost, performance, flxibility and ease of use. Over and above high costs, SMEs are forced to acquire large servers, highly qualified technical personnel, pay user based fees and recurring license costs etc.

The core intent of SME of optimizing cost is lost the moment they are fooled into going for a oversized, underutilized, misfit ERP.

Only ERPs like SYS-APPS (<a HREF="http://www.excltechnologies.com" rel="nofollow">www.excltechnologies.com</A>)
which are focused to the requirements of SMEs, can serve them effectively and help them realize their goal of improved efficiency with lower input costs.

alan p - nah, thinks France with it's hierarchical structures (blame Napoleon...) would require some unforeseen structure add-ons and a huge and devastating bloat in code ;)

(On the serious side; French organisations is more or less the only place world-wide where I have almost nil interest - not that I have tried though - think it's linked with what seems to be a truly hierarchical organisational approach, attitude and education, purely amateurish observations by me of course!)

Heck you guys are Johnny-come-latelys, I was working on MRP II before it even became ERP :-D.

Interesting writeup of Sig's stuff though.

PS if it takes 30Mb to run Germany, is that 20Mb for France based on populations?

Zoli,

Thingamy does look promising for those companies that have the IT staff or resident tinkerer on board who can take a bit of time up front to architect a solution.

The problem though is most SMB's for example; in the current economic environment we are in, have their resources focused on revenue generation and or support activities thus the timing might be bad for Thingamy to gain traction with a new model for ERP.

Bugger, you're a week too early! Hehe...

You're asking for it now - so be prepared for some online demoing end next week (I say optimistically) - some quite unexpected stuff that will surprise you methinks.

Other than that, obviously never going to be easy when one breaks all rules and does everything different - cannot even counter the "very-very".
The good thing though is that the market is on the big side (IT spend for banks alone is 20 times the total online advertising market world wide - the source for most 2.0 business models) and, by the way, who's really happy with the current enterprise solutions anyway?

Well the proof will be in the pudding as always ;)
