Girlfriend 6.0 vs. Wife 1.0 – Sequel to Technical Support: Upgrade Nightmares

This gem from Good Morning Silicon Valley is the sequel to Technical Support: Upgrade Nightmares (hat tip: Mike Cannon-Brookes)

Last year a friend of mine upgraded from GirlFriend 6.0 to Wife 1.0 and found that it’s a memory hog leaving very little system resources available for other applications. He is now noticing that Wife 1.0 is also spawning Child Processes which are further consuming valuable resources. No mention of this particular phenomena was included in the product brochure or the documentation, though other users have informed him that this is to be expected due to the nature of the application.

Zoli, you are not married, are you? Else, I hope you hide this from your wife. Not good for marital bliss …

I wonder if I can MOUNT Girlfriend x.0 in a seperate partition while Wife 1.0 is in sleep mode just to make sure there are not software conflicts.

Any such experimentation is at the user’s sole responsibility and it voids any warranty an ALL software products 🙂

    Brilliant work!

I may have inadvertantly invoked a negative billing function with girlfriend 2.3 (post wife 1.0) in that I continued use after the free trial period causing GF 2.3 to function in a similar manner as a wife 2.0

I cannot remember seeing this in the product documentation however in my hurry to get it plugged in and running I likely didn’t heed all of the usual cautions and warnings

    Just a reminder folks:

Even though all the Wife versions come with a higher level of protection than the Girlfriend versions, since you do not know what others may do Wife, proper anti-virus protection is still recommended. Increased anti-spyware protection is definitely recommended!
