Fox News Out-Foxed Themselves

This is hilarious: Fox News ran an April Fools’ poll to see who “the most foolish American” was.

They announced the winner… drumroll: Britney Spears, with 33% of the votes. Too bad they forgot to cover the the real winner: President George Bush, leading the pack with 40%. Watch it on .. where else, but Youtube.

Morning Coffee – Enough for All of Us

A new world record from Panama City: 300 pounds (136kg) of arabica coffee used to brew 750 gallons (2840 litres) of coffee, in a mug 2.75 metres by 1.6m over four hours.

The record will be submitted to Guinness World Records this month. The previous Guinness record was held by the US for brewing 660 gallons (2500 litres) in New York in 1994.

Hm.. this should be enough to get us all supercharged on Monday morning 🙂

Note: This is *not* an April Fools Day joke.

Why Did the Butterfly Cross the Road?

“Why did the chicken cross the road?” is one of the oldest jokes around.  But what about butterflies?

When they cross the road, traffic halts.  At least in Taiwan:

“Taiwan is to close one lane of a major highway to protect more than a million butterflies, which cross the road on their seasonal migration.
The purple milkweed butterfly, which winters in the south of the island, passes over some 600m of motorway to reach its breeding ground in the north.

Many of the 11,500 butterflies that attempt the journey each hour do not reach safety, experts say. Protective nets and ultra-violet lights will also be used to aid the insects.”

Robbing Your Kids of their Childhood

Note to parents: two-year-olds are supposed to be just that: CHILDREN.

They don’t need Resumes.  And definitely no “preschool admissions advisers” (gee, I did not know such a profession even existed).  They will have enough time in their life to “enjoy” the rat-race … don’t push them. Don’t steal their childhood.

Grand Canyon Skywalk

After glass-bottom boats, here’s the first (?) glass-bottom bridge:  the Grand Canyon Skywalk is scheduled to open later this month.  The amazing 1.07 million pound structure  extends about 75 feet over the rim and about 4,000 feet over the canyon floor. It’s designed to withstand 100 mph winds and has shock absorbers to keep the walkway from wobbling as people walk through.

Tours will cost $25. Prior to the public opening there will be a “First Walk” event for media and VIPs. The name of the first public figure to step on The Skywalk will be announced closer to the opening.  Hm, I think they should invite somebody named … Luke. smile_wink

Feed Me, Seymour!

Little Shop of Horrors Little (?) Shop of Horrors in New York: a group of NYU students created Botanicalls, an innovative project which “establishes a way for thirsty plants to effectively communicate their needs to humans – by placing phone calls to their owners.

Utilizing moisture sensors – which are attached to the plants – as well as an open-source telephony application called Asterisk, the programmed software triggers Asterisk to call a designated number whenever a plant needs watering.

For now they are only calling …
